Introduction to Ritu Parivartan

The changing seasons bring about various effects on our body and mind. As we transition from summer to monsoon, our body requires special care to prevent imbalances and health issues. According to Ayurveda, the summer season (Grishma Ritu) is characterized by intense sunlight, which can lead to a decrease in our physical strength (bala) and digestive power (agni).

Effects of Seasonal Transition

As the monsoon season approaches, the atmosphere becomes more humid, and the temperature fluctuates. This can lead to an accumulation of vata dosha in the body, which can cause various health problems. The ancient Ayurvedic text, Ashtanga Hridayam, quotes Acharya Vagbhata:

तीक्ष्णांशुतीक्ष्णांशुराभिभिः सन्दिक्षपतीव यतः। प्रत्यहं क्षीयते श्लेष्मा तेन वायुः वर्धते॥ This translates to: 'The intense sunlight of summer depletes the body's fluids and increases vata dosha.'

Importance of Seasonal Care

During this transitional period, it's essential to take special care of our body to prevent vata-related problems. A healthy diet, lifestyle, and Ayurvedic practices can help maintain balance and well-being. Some tips to keep in mind:

  • Eat a balanced diet that includes foods that balance vata dosha, such as warm, nourishing, and easily digestible meals.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and other fluids.
  • Practice gentle exercises like yoga and meditation to reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Get enough sleep and maintain a regular sleep schedule.

Understanding Vata Dosha

In our next post, we'll explore why vata dosha increases after the summer season and the Ayurvedic reasons behind it. Stay tuned to learn more about maintaining a healthy balance during the monsoon season.
